Reassembly of Gearcase
1977 2HP Johnson/Evinrude outboards
NOTE
a. Install new driveshaft seal in gear housing using OMC Gasket Sealing Compound on outside of seal.
b. Press a new seal into the gearcase head using OMC Gasket Sealing Compound on outside diameter of seal and place a new "O" ring in position on gearcase head.
c. Oil the propeller shaft and slide the gearcase head onto the shaft.
d. Place the pinion gear in position in the gearcase. Install driveshaft in gear housing.
e. Install the propeller shaft with gearcase head. The gearcase head has a flat surface at upper screw hole which must face up.
f. Dip gearcase head attaching screws in OMC Gasket Sealing Compound and tighten to torque specified in Section 2.
NOTE
If installing a new water pump repair kit, follow the instructions supplied in the kit.
g. Install impeller pin in driveshaft. Lubricate impeller with oil and slide impeller down driveshaft. Rotate impeller in a clockwise direction while slipping it into water pump chamber to position blades correctly and to engage pin.
Attach pump cover to gearcase with screws dipped in OMC Gasket Sealing Compound and torque to specifications.
h. Oil and install new lower water tube grommet in top of impeller cover.
