Removal of Steering Handle - 4 Deluxe thru 8Outboards1985 Johnson/Evinrude 2HP thru V-6 models

  1. 4 Deluxe and 4.5 Models - Remove the screw that retains the throttle connector "A" to the lower engine cover.
    • 5, 6 and 8 Models - Remove the screw that retains the throttle connector "B" to the powerhead.
  2. Remove the stop button ground lead from the powerhead.
  3. Remove the wire retainer from the 5-wire cable connector. Disconnect the connector. Using OMC Special l P/N 322698 (Pin Removal Tool), remove pin "E" from the plug.
  4. 4 Deluxe and 4.5 Models - Remove the power pack front mounting screw. Spread the throttle lever and remove the throttle cable pivot pin "C".
    • 5, 6 and 8 Models - Remove the locknut with washer retaining the throttle cable pivot pin "D" to the throttle lever. Remove the throttle cable from the J-clamp.
  5. Thread the pivot pin off the throttle cable.
  6. Remove the steering handle screw and nut. Lift the handle from the steering bracket. Pull the throttle cable and stop button wires through the grommet in the lower engine cover.
